Missy Wins VetSpec Dog of the Year’ Competition!

11-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, Mischief, or ‘Missy’ as she is more often known, has been crowned ‘VetSpec Dog of The Year’ in a national photograph competition run on Facebook.

After winning ‘VetSpec Dog of The Month,’ Missy went forward into a national final and was voted the overall winner by followers online to take the annual title.

Said Missy’s delighted owner, Jen Poulton-Dean from Somerset, “I am thrilled that Missy has won this competition. She will be 12 on 4th May and I have had her since she was a nine-week-old puppy. She used to be my partner in crime when I was a freelance equine groom, coming everywhere with me and thinking that anywhere we went was her own personal land – a typical Jack Russell Terrier!”

“We now both lead quieter lives. I work in an office and had a baby daughter seven months ago so Missy has taken on the role of stay-at-home nanny to Florrie, a job that she’s not overly sure about!”

“Missy enjoys living in the Somerset countryside which gives her the opportunity to be very active. She loves swimming in the summer, taking walks along the beach and, of course, sleeping in her favourite bed. She’s a massive personality and a big part of my family. She thinks she owns the world and likes to keep everyone in order if they’re getting a bit boisterous!”

Jen gives Missy VetSpec Omega-3 Joint Mobility + Gravy to help optimise her joint health and flexibility. It contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids along with glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and antioxidants.  When mixed with warm water, the supplement produces a delicious gravy which can be poured over your dog’s food and can help tempt the pickiest of feeders.

Said Jen’ “Missy loves the gravy and it encourages her to eat up.”

VetSpec Omega-3 Joint Mobility + Gravy is ideal for older dogs with joint disease, dogs that have had skeletal injuries, dogs recovering from orthopaedic surgery and also fit and active dogs in hard physical exercise.

Boodie Enjoys Life With VetSpec

12-year-old Lurcher, Boodie, had always been very fit and active throughout her life.

Being half Greyhound, quarter Deerhound and quarter Border Collie, Boodie is built for speed. Her favourite pastime was racing around in the field alongside the river, as well as furtive food-stealing ventures in the kitchen! However, over the past year she had started to age rapidly. She became stiff and was disinterested in life in general, whilst also sleeping for long periods of time.

Her owner, Rachel Newborn, from Swaledale, North Yorkshire, decided to try her on VetSpec Senior – a specialist canine supplement for older dogs.

VetSpec Senior has been formulated by experienced nutritionists with scientifically-proven ingredients including vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and provides complete micro-nutritional support and a full joint supplement.

Rich in glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin to optimise joint mobility, VetSpec Senior also contains pre and probiotics to help maintain gut health. It is wheat gluten-free and has full traceability of all ingredients.

It’s a great supplement for elderly dogs, dogs with reduced mobility, dogs showing signs of senility, older dogs that are losing condition, dogs needing gastro-intestinal support and those recovering from surgery or veterinary treatment.

Said Rachel: “VetSpec was very easy to give to Boodie – I just mixed it in with her normal food.”

“Since being on VetSpec Senior she seems happier all round. She is bright and alert, always up for a run in the field at home and even chases the odd rabbit! (However she still hates little girls in pink dresses…!”)

The VetSpec range is available in 200g tubs (4 weeks supply for a 20kg dog) or 500g tubs (12 weeks supply for a 20kg dog).

Boris Beats His Bug With Help From VetSpec

Boris, the Springer Spaniel, was heading for the local dog charity’s rescue centre at just six-months-old, but when Lincolnshire dog-lover, Suzanne Lee, heard this, she immediately offered him a home.

20160418_183709_resized

He settled in well but seemed to have a permanently upset stomach, with very loose, watery stools, so Suzanne tried different types of dog food to see if that was the problem. But the diarrhoea continued and then Boris started to be sick and lost 2kg in weight in just a few days so was rushed to the vet.

The vet took blood and stool samples and these came back confirming that Boris had a giardia parasite in his gut, most likely to have been from drinking dirty water, as well as a campylobacter infection. Because all Suzanne’s other dogs were fine, the vet suspected that Boris already had the problems when Suzanne took him on.

He was given a course of treatment and seemed to be clear after a few weeks, but then the diarrhoea started up again and tests showed the campylobacter infection was still present.

Suzanne wanted to give Boris the best chance of recovery so as well as him being on the antibiotics from the vet, she put him on VetSpec Healthy Dog.

VetSpec Healthy Dog is an all-in-one canine supplement to optimise health and condition and is especially suitable for the nutritional support of dogs recovering from veterinary treatment and/or dogs with gastro-intestinal problems. Suzanne simply adds it to Boris’ normal feed.

The formula contains scientifically proven ingredients including vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids, which can improve the coat, promote a supple skin and help to build muscular condition. It also includes high levels of pre and probiotics to help maintain gastro-intestinal health.

Said Suzanne: “Boris quickly picked up and he soon put on the 2kg he had lost, regaining his liveliness.”

“His coat improved and was shinier than before and his stools became more solid. I am sure that VetSpec has helped aid his recovery following his course of antibiotics to clear the second infection.”

Golden Oldie, Pippy, Continues To Enjoy Life With VetSpec

At the age of 15, Pippy the Beagle is continuing to enjoy life as long as she can, despite having to overcome several challenges in recent years.

About three years ago she developed a recurring tumour in her mouth which resulted in several operations and the loss of some teeth. She also contracted a pseudomonas bacterial infection in her lip folds near to the tumour, which is resistant to antibiotics and causes her mouth to be a bit sore and smelly. Due to her age she is also now quite deaf and partially blind.

IMG_1040 smaller

In recent weeks, Pippy’s owner, Emma West, from North Lincolnshire, had noticed that Pippy seemed a little less active and slightly disorientated on occasions and had started to lose a little weight.

Emma has owned Pippy from being an eight-week-old pup and she was Emma’s first dog so they have grown up together.

Said Emma (22): “I know Pippy is a good age and her days are probably numbered now but she still enjoys life and runs around the garden with my other two dogs – another younger Beagle and a Border Terrier.”

“I heard about VetSpec Senior and thought I’d try her on it as I thought it may help with her general health and well-being and I want to make her life as easy as possible.”

VetSpec Senior provides complete micro nutritional support and a full joint supplement for older dogs.

“Said Emma: “Pippy definitely seems more like her old self since starting her on VetSpec Senior.  She still thinks she’s a puppy and races round the garden with the other dogs, despite her eyesight not being brilliant. Her mobility is very good, though, particularly for her age and I am sure she is less confused these days. She eats up really well and hopefully will continue to enjoy her life as long as possible.”

VetSpec Helps With Puppy’s Post-Surgery Recovery

Archie the Jack Russell, owned by Jeanette Wight, is a typically energetic puppy who loves to leap around and run all over, but after an accident in the garden and a trip to the vets, it was confirmed that he had snapped his cruciate ligament.

The injury meant surgery for Archie followed by 22 weeks of confinement to a crate with very limited exercise at first – a task that had to be managed very carefully in order for the injury to heal properly. Not easy with a lively puppy!

Said Jeanette: “We had to find different ways to keep him amused while he was in the crate and for the first eight weeks he even had to be carried outside to relieve himself. As he progressed he went swimming and then we slowly had to build up his exercise with short walks on a lead, keeping him restrained at all times as he would have been very tempted to run around had we let him loose and particularly loves jumping! His rehabilitation at home involved lots of physiotherapy and sitting on steps was one of the exercises used to help get his leg to bend as well as helping his balance.”

Archie

Archie’s diet also had to be looked at closely whilst he was convalescing, as it was important that he received all the vitamins and minerals required for a growing puppy but he didn’t require the extra energy.

He was put on a diet of chicken and rice which was supplemented by VetSpec Healthy Dog and also VetSpec Omega-3 Joint Mobility + Gravy.

VetSpec Healthy Dog provides all-round nutritional support and is ideal for dogs recovering from veterinary treatment. It contains pre and probiotics to aid gastric intestinal health as well as all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants required for nutritional support.

Jeanette also used VetSpec’s latest addition to the range – VetSpec Omega-3 Joint Mobility + Gravy. This supplement has been specially designed to produce a delicious gravy when mixed with warm water and can be poured over the dog’s food.

VetSpec

It is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and has high levels of active ingredients including glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM to optimise joint health and flexibility and is a great choice for dogs like Archie who are recovering from orthopaedic surgery as well as those with joint disease such as osteoarthritis.

Said Jeanette: “Archie is now 14 months old and has made a good recovery. He still needs a little more muscle tone and his running action is a bit underdeveloped but that all takes time. We are delighted with his progress and he is feeling so good, thanks to VetSpec, that my main problem now is to keep him from his favourite game of wall-jumping!”

Rocky’s Road to a Calmer Life!

Rocky, a Patterdale x Yorkshire Terrier, is a rescue dog who was taken in by Liz Lambert in North Lincolnshire when he was just a year old.

Liz described Rocky as being quite crazy and unruly when he first arrived. He could be quite snappy with people and Liz wondered whether they had done the right thing taking him on.

“He was like a whirlwind, very excitable, as a lot of young dogs can be, but also quite wary of strangers and with no recall at all. He would take off across the fields and disappear for hours.”

Rocky

Then Liz heard about VetSpec Calm & Focused from a friend and decided to give it a try.

VetSpec Calm & Focused is a canine supplement that can simply be added to your dog’s normal feed. It can help improve a dog’s concentration and obedience, reduce nervousness and fear of loud noises, strangers, travelling, and separation anxiety.

VetSpec Calm & Focused

It is specially formulated by experienced nutritionists with scientifically proven ingredients including tryptophan – a natural precursor of serotonin and the yeast products FOS and MOS to help maintain a healthy gut environment. It is wheat gluten free with full traceability of all ingredients

Rocky is now five years old and is a different dog. He has, of course, grown up a lot since Liz first acquired him, but she believes that VetSpec Calm & Focused has played a large part in helping him.

“Rocky happily eats up his food with the supplement in it and is much more settled and calmer these days. He still has his moments but all in all he has become the pet we always wanted.” said Liz.
