By planning ahead of bonfire night you could help your dog by providing it with a safe haven from all the noise of firework season. Ideally this should be a quiet room that the dog feels is a safe and happy place for it to go. You can create this by putting your dogs favourite toys in there and not imposing yourself.
What to do when the fireworks start
Follow these simple steps when the fireworks start:
- If you have a dog, or know of a freinds dog, that isn't bothered by fireworks and gets along with your dog, keeping them together may help your dog to realise there isn't anything to be afraid of.
- Close all windows in the room that you are keeping your dog in and black them out to stop any problems that might be casued by the flashing lights.
- Don't igonre your dog. Dogs are social animals that enjoy their owners company. Keep checking in on your dog and play with them.
